Let's get one thing clear from the beginning: I am not THE clever woman. I am A clever woman. So are you.
I come from a long line of clever women. One grandmother was the crafting maven, and currently has a giant craft table in heaven, where there is a place for everyone. One grandmother is a quilting genius, piecing individual works of magic and beauty for her kids and grand kids. My mother is an amazing seamstress, and sewed all our dresses and many immaculately perfect doll clothes.
The women in my life are clever in other ways too. I used to think that to be clever you had to do crafts. But over the years of my life and my own motherhood, I realize that cleverness goes far beyond crafts.
My grandmother is clever in her relationships with the people she loves. She makes them feel special and important no matter what crazy things they do or say.
My mom was clever to immerse herself in her children's lives, and continues to do so. She taught me, my sister, and my two brothers how to sew. She taught us family togetherness, and also a good helping of independence. Sometimes too much, she'd say. We are resilient, service-minded, family-centered, talent-rich, and open-hearted.
It turns out, I am cleverer than I ever thought I was. I love sewing clothing. But I can also diagnose mechanical problems and fix many of them myself. I can save money shopping for food, clothing, and eating at home. I love a good challenge, and nothing gets me excited more than a good problem to solve. I sew, bake, garden, make handouts, and yes, sometimes I even craft. I love the outdoors and I really love to exercise.
I am married to Mr. We are an unstoppable duo: he, the Idea Man, & I, the Do It Gal. We prove that two is better than one, and he is constantly urging and inspiring me to be more clever.
I have three daughters who are exceedingly clever. They are the joy of my life and the realization of my dreams. I see them becoming even more amazing, smart, loving, serving, independent (but not too), and God-fearing women. We love the outdoors and adventures, mainly close to home, in Utah. My oldest daughter is co-author of this blog. It is our togetherness project.
I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. You could also call me a Mormon. My religion is who I am. It helps me be a better person, provides direction to my life, and unites my family. You can learn more here.
My desire is for this blog to be a discovery of the clever woman. To inspire women to bask in their own cleverness and recognize their greatness. I'd love it to be a place where you can see that clever goes way beyond arts and crafts, and that you are infinitely more clever than you ever realized.
We are all The Clever Woman.
